On 27 March 2026, the Green Movement of Sri Lanka distributed essential work and safety equipment to Kithul farmers in the Rattota and Kiwlawadiya areas of Matale District, supporting communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah.
Seventeen farmers received items such as raincoats, belts, safety ropes, silver cans, stek knives, and head torch lights—tools that are vital for carrying out their work safely and efficiently as they rebuild their livelihoods.
Kithul farming is both a key source of income and a deeply rooted tradition in these communities. By equipping farmers with the right tools, this initiative helps protect their safety, preserve their livelihoods, and strengthen community resilience.
This effort was carried out under the project “Support to Provide Urgent Relief for Victims of Cyclone Ditwah in the Raththota and Laggala-Pallegama Areas of the Central Province of Sri Lanka,” with support from the High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka and Maldives through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).
Supporting livelihoods means restoring dignity and building a stronger path to recovery.
