On 27 March 2026, the Green Movement of Sri Lanka visited two Early Childhood Development Centres in the Ambanganga Korale and Rattota areas of Matale District, bringing with them something every child deserves: the tools to learn.
A total of 50 young learners received stationery and essential educational materials — simple supplies that carry the weight of possibility. In communities still recovering from the devastation of Cyclone Ditwah, these kits offer children more than pencils and notebooks. They offer continuity, stability, and hope.
The two ECD Centres that benefited from this distribution were the Buddhist Pre School in Ambanganga Korale, where 30 children received their kits, and the Dilenamuthu Pre School in Polwattakanda, where 20 children were reached.
Access to basic learning materials plays a vital role in a child’s early development. The earliest years of a child’s life are the most formative — shaping how they think, communicate, and engage with the world around them. When disaster disrupts that foundation, restoring it becomes an act of care as urgent as any other form of relief.
“Every child deserves the chance to learn and grow — and it is our responsibility to make sure that chance is not taken away by circumstance.”
By equipping these young learners with the right tools, the Green Movement of Sri Lanka takes another meaningful step in nurturing their potential and supporting the communities that raise them. Reaching the unreached is not just a commitment — it is a calling.
This initiative is part of the project “Support to Provide Urgent Relief for Victims of Cyclone Ditwah in the Raththota and Laggala-Pallegama Areas of the Central Province of Sri Lanka,” made possible through the generous support of the High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka and Maldives, via the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).
Every child deserves the chance to learn and grow.
