Humanness compromised

The sea with its bounty and balance does not become less private although it belongs to everyone else. Nor the sky that washes us with sunlight and moonlight, the scent of flowers and the song of birds. Nor the great forests that roll over our land feeding and sheltering all sentient life. Nor the massive rivers that flow from them, through them, out of them, satiating the thirsts of our lands and our lives. In our folly, we claimed personal ownership of that which belongs to all. We privatized that which is publically private. The land dried. Beings died. In our madness, we continue. In our derangement, we watch all things fail. All things fall. In our estrangement from humanness, even as we walk this dusty road to doom, compelled by forces of our own creation, fed by our greed, fear and ignorance, we shall still, stubbornly call our great machination of destruction? civilization.
