On 23 February 2026, the Green Movement of Sri Lanka conducted a school supplies outreach to six Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centres in the Laggala-Pallegama Divisional Secretariat area, as part of our ongoing relief efforts for communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah.
The outreach was coordinated with the support of Ms. Sunethra Abesinghe, Early Childhood Development Officer of the Laggala-Pallegama Divisional Secretariat, reaching children from low-income families whose lives were disrupted by the cyclone. The Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Members of Laggala Pradeshiya Sabha also attended and took part in handing over the school supplies, reflecting the strong local commitment to supporting affected communities.
The following six ECD Centres received school supplies:
- Vikasitha Pre-School, Kiulewadiya
- Singithma Pre-School, Galeyaya
- Singithi Pre-School, Hattota Amuna
- Ran Kakulu Pre-School, Dewaladheniya
- Kakulu Pre-School, Akarahadiya
- Kakulu Pre-School, Mahalakotuwa
Ensuring that children can continue their early education, even in the wake of disaster, is a crucial step in community recovery. Access to basic learning materials helps restore a sense of normalcy and hope for young children and their families.
This initiative was carried out under the humanitarian support project, “Support to Provide Urgent Relief for Victims of Cyclone Ditwah in the Raththota and Laggala-Pallegama Areas of the Central Province of Sri Lanka,” with the generous support of the High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka and Maldives, through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).
Rebuilding futures, one child at a time.
