On 24 February 2026, the Green Movement of Sri Lanka proudly handed over two restored water projects in Illukkumbura and Kahagala, in the Laggala-Pallegama Divisional Secretariat of Matale District — both of which were severely damaged by Cyclone Ditwah.
The handover ceremony was led by the Chairperson of the Green Movement of Sri Lanka, together with the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Technical Officer, and Water Controller Officer of Laggala Pradeshiya Sabha, Grama Niladhari officers, and other government officials. Farmer organisation officers, community members, and Dumbara Sena activists also joined in this important occasion.
The Green Movement of Sri Lanka contributed 5,000L water tanks, water pipes, and pipe fittings, restoring clean water access to more than 65 families across the Illukkumbura and Kahagala communities.
Access to clean water is fundamental to health, dignity, and recovery. Restoring these water projects is a critical step in helping cyclone-affected communities rebuild their lives.
This initiative was carried out under the humanitarian support project, “Support to Provide Urgent Relief for Victims of Cyclone Ditwah in the Raththota and Laggala-Pallegama Areas of the Central Province of Sri Lanka,” with the generous support of the High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka and Maldives, through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).
Rebuilding futures, one community at a time.
