Community discussions are vital because they foster a sense of belonging and provide support, empower individuals by giving them a voice in decision-making, leverage collective wisdom for innovative problem-solving and effective solutions, and build trust and strong relationships between people and organizations.

Lalani from Illukkumbura explains her situation

On September 20, our team visited the communities in Illukkumbura, Kahagala, Puwakpitiya, Poththtawela, and Dammanthenna villages in Matale District to discuss and understand their challenges due to climate change, explore possible solutions, and recognize the valuable local resources and strengths they bring into the table to implement the project “Enhancing the Climate Resilience of Vulnerable Communities in Laggala-Pallegama through Sustainable Agriculture, Socioeconomic Empowerment, and Inclusive Policy Advocacy”.

This two-year (2025 – 2027) initiative is implemented by the Green Movement of Sri Lanka with the funding support from High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka and Maldives through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).
Together, we build stronger and resilient communities to face the adverse impacts of climate change.
