Bringing Essential Healthcare to Cyclone Ditwah-Affected Communities

On 23 February 2026, the Green Movement of Sri Lanka held a successful medical camp for families affected by Cyclone Ditwah, with the support of Medical Officer Dr. L.C.J. Wijesooriya and the dedicated medical staff.

More than 120 people attended the camp, with around 80 patients receiving treatment and medication for non-communicable diseases including diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, and high cholesterol. Essential materials and equipment for mothers and newborns were also provided to three expecting mothers.

The camp served communities from Laggala-Pallegama, Nawaguruwela, Thorapitiya, Rathninda, Poththatawala, and Kahagala villages — bringing much-needed medical care directly to those affected by the cyclone.

This initiative was carried out under the humanitarian support project, “Support to Provide Urgent Relief for Victims of Cyclone Ditwah in the Raththota and Laggala-Pallegama Areas of the Central Province of Sri Lanka,” with the generous support of the High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka and Maldives, through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Wijesooriya, the Hettipola Provincial Hospital staff, and all those who helped bring timely medical care to communities in need.
