On 24 February 2026, two more vital water infrastructure improvements were handed over to communities in the Laggala-Pallegama Divisional Secretariat of Matale District, as part of our ongoing relief efforts for those affected by Cyclone Ditwah.
The handover ceremonies were led by the Chairman of the Green Movement of Sri Lanka, together with the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Technical Officer, and Water Controller Officer of Laggala Pradeshiya Sabha, and other government officials. Farmer organisation officers, community members, and Dumbara Sena activists also joined in these important occasions.
The restored Puwakpitiya water filter was officially handed over to the community, bringing clean water access to approximately 300 families. The repaired Poththatawela Distribution Tank was also handed over to the community. Prior to the repair, the damaged tank had caused the water supply to become contaminated, compromising the health and wellbeing of the Poththatawela community. The repair has now restored a safe and clean water supply to all.
Access to safe, clean water is fundamental to health, dignity, and recovery. These restorations mark a critical step in helping cyclone-affected communities rebuild their lives with confidence.
This initiative was carried out under the humanitarian support project, “Support to Provide Urgent Relief for Victims of Cyclone Ditwah in the Raththota and Laggala-Pallegama Areas of the Central Province of Sri Lanka,” with the generous support of the High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka and Maldives, through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).
Rebuilding futures, one community at a time.
