Core areas addressed
   

Playing a key organizational role in creating a network for citizens to respond to climate change, engage in identifying appropriate responses in specific sectors, support eco-friendly livelihood activities, create enabling environment for moving from black to green technologies, engage the government in formulating people friendly response strategies within a framework of sustainable and regenerative development, disaster management, support the government in international debates on climate policy, engage internationally to determine global people’s responses to climate change.

   
   
Specific activities to-date
   

- Created the primary apex of CSOs working on climate change in Sri Lanka - the People’s Secretariat for Climate Change

  - Identified sector based response mechanisms
  - Supported the government in formulating the climate change policy
  - Climate education policy for the UNFCCC’s Second National Communication Report of Sri Lanka and the climate adaptation policy
  - Worked with grass roots communities in mitigating the effects of climate change and responding to disasters
  - Formulated a people’s action plan for disaster preparedness and climate response
  - Identified sector-wise best practices in building disaster and climate resilience at the rural level
  - Worked with the government to strategize legislative changes based on sustainable, people centric disaster and climate policies.
